Our Boyo House property, located in Japan’s Hokkaido region, is not just a typical holiday destination; it was and remains a labor of love and a dream realised by the Porter family from Australia’s Gold Coast. Proud ‘Aussies’ through and through, the Porter family ventured to own not just any property in Japan but to develop a collection of boutique, upscale, and stylish holiday homes nestled in a charming seaside city along the Sea of Japan and the Ishikari Bay.

With the invaluable support of their remarkable Japanese friends and business associates, the Porter family transformed their deep-seated passion into a reality. Having traversed the globe and raised their family on Australia’s vibrant Gold Coast, their aspiration was to create a haven where friends, families, and group travellers could relish genuine ‘real Japan’ holiday experiences. These experiences would revolve around the idea of a comfortable and elegant home-base that, most importantly, offered an authentic immersion into the local culture, its peoples and their peaceful way of life.

The vision for Hokkaido Holiday Homes is clear – no extravagant promises, no excessive hype, and certainly no ‘let-downs’. Our initial Boyo House property (and future portfolio) embodies this vision and goes beyond the everyday holiday home. Our personally renovated and meticulously designed home is a treasure that the Porter family hold dear. Whether as a family unit or as individuals, they find true joy during most winters in the enchanting seaside city of Otaru, revealing in every precious moment in this place of boundless beauty.

Our Hokkaido made furniture is carefully selected to be highly functional and practical, with clean lines and a minimalistic appearance. We also appreciate imperfection and the beauty of aged objects, inspired by the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, and incorporate these elements into our decor.
